Production and Validation of a Video About the Inventário Portage Operacionalizado

Abstract

Video modeling is a procedure that involves viewing and imitating a behavior exhibited through video. Although video modeling has been widely used in the Applied Behavior Analysis literature, validation of videos is rarely described by studies that used this procedure. Validation verifies the degree to which the content of an instrument adequately fulfills the purposes for which it was developed. The purpose of the present study was to produce and validate an instructional video to teach the implementation of the Inventário Portage Operacionalizado (IPO). Initially, a task analysis was carried out to identify the necessary steps for the correct implementation of the IPO. Then, the video production was conducted in three phases: pre-production, recording, and editing, based on the 19 steps identified as necessary for a correct and complete application of the IPO in the task analysis. Finally, six professionals with different areas of expertise viewed the video and answered a questionnaire evaluating its content. They were asked whether the video depicted each step necessary to implement the IPO and whether it fulfilled the purpose of teaching its implementation. They indicated that the video had all the steps required to implement the instrument. They also suggested modifications to improve the comprehensibility of the information presented in the video. Considering that the professionals’ report is not enough to prove the video’s effectiveness, future studies should evaluate its effects by using it to teach people interested in child development to implement the IPO.
