Resumo

The behavioral interview is fundamental in the evaluation process in clinical settings. Its implementation entails the implementation of basic clinical skills such as establishing relationship components, identifying and characterizing the problem, and closing the gap. Therefore, adequate guidance from psychologists in training becomes essential. The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of an intervention on basic clinical skills of behavioral interviewing in final-year psychology students. A pre-experimental design with pre- and post-assessment was used. Twenty-six students participated, comprising 14 women and 12 men (M = 21.14 years, SD = 1.40) in their seventh semester of psychology. Before training, inter-rater reliability was calculated using a specially developed checklist for identifying basic clinical skills in behavioral interviewing (Phase 1). Initial (α = 0.96) and subsequent (α = 0.94) inter-rater reliability were obtained, allowing its use as an assessment tool during training (Phase 2). The intervention consisted of eight face-to-face sessions, each lasting two hours, during which role-playing, modeling, shaping, direct instruction, and feedback techniques were employed. The results indicate that the differences between the total pre- and post-test scores were statistically significant and had a large effect size (z=1.542, p=0.034, r=0.58). It is concluded that new technologies should continue to be used in the future for training in these clinical skills.
